High/Important Ranks
Alphas:
The Alpha pair is two wolves who are in charge of everything in the pack. They are the ones who make the rules and see to it that they are properly enforced. The Alpha pair is generally the only wolves to mate within a pack though there may be exceptions if permission is directly given by the Alphas. These two wolves are the center of the family and highly respected by the pack. There are only two Alphas in a pack.
Betas:
The Betas, usually a pair, is second in command. Beta wolves are very loyal wolves and are committed to the pack, they see to it that the Alphas decisions are carried out properly. If an Alpha is to become absent, be killed, or step down the betas are usually the ones to take their place. There are only two Betas in a pack.
Deltas:
The Delta wolves are wolves that is training to become Beta. If a Beta is to be killed, step down, or be demoted the Deltas are usually the ones to become a Beta at request of the Alphas. Deltas are third in command behind Betas and Alphas. A wolf may remain Delta without stepping up to the Beta position if requested by the Alphas. There Are only two Deltas in a pack.
Subordinate Ranks
Sentinels:
These wolves are the guardians of the pack. They are to patrol the territory and make sure no intruders enter the packs camp. These wolves are often the first to greet newcomers and are in charge of seeing why the newcomer is there are report back to the Alphas. Sentinels also make sure the pack and its members stay out of trouble and help enforce rules established by the Alphas.
Elders:
Elders are generally respected by the pack. They are older wolves, sometimes retired Alphas or Betas, who have decided to make the pack their finial resting place. These wolves may give advice to the Alphas and share their wisdom with the younger wolves of the pack.
Hunters:
Hunters are the wolves who are exceptionally good at hunting and tracking prey. The lead hunters hunt alongside the Alphas/Betas and indicate when it is a wolves turn to charge at the prey. Once prey is killed the lead hunters will often be the ones to call the rest of the pack to gather for a meal.
Scouts:
Scouts are the wolves who are often well known with neighboring packs. They are to help make sure that a healthy friendship is kept with the other packs and will report back the the Alphas with any changes in other packs such as new leaderships, a pack turning hostile, a new pack forming, or, if necessary, a scout will be sent to ask another pack for help. This is very rare and only happens when a pack is in a life threatening situation and is in need of help.
Pups:
The pups are the life of the pack, all of the pack members will help raise the pups and see to it that they are healthy and strong. Though if a pup is found to be weak and unlikely to survive it is the job of the Alphas or Betas to kill the pup in order to give the others a better chance of survival. Though this is a sad job in which no wolf wants to do it is a very common.
Omegas:
These are the lowest ranking wolves in the pack. They are wolves who have been demoted due to wrong actions or betrayal to the pack. These wolves are the last to eat within the pack and only get the scraps.
Loners:
Loners are stray wolves who have not yet been accepted into a pack or who do not wish to be accepted into a pack.
